The prospects of Imran Khan’s military trial over his alleged involvement in the May 9 riots, which saw military installations vandalized after his arrest in a graft case last year, were questioned by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday. The IHC had directed the federal government to provide clarification on the matter.
“The PTI founder is a civilian [and] the military trial of a civilian is a matter of concern for the petitioner as well as the court,” stated Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC in response to Khan’s September 3 plea filed under Article 199 of the Constitution, which came amid rumors that he would be tried in a military forum.
The appeals of the former prime minister were made in response to remarks made by senior government figures, like as Defense Minister Khawaja Asif .
