ISLAMABAD: The administration would change the constitution to raise the retirement age of judges of the superior court as soon as it has a two-thirds majority in both chambers of parliament, a government source told The News.
According to the source, all it would take is three more Senate votes for the government and treasury benches to modify the Constitution to increase the terms of superior court justices.
However, when reached, Attaullah Tarar, the Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting, did neither affirm or refute anything. The minister promised to follow up after contacting the law minister in response to my curiousity. He did not, however, return until this report was filed.
The anonymous insider asserted, however, that the administration has already secured a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.
