The prime minister is in Washington, DC, for discussions about the ongoing conflict with President Joe Biden at the White House.
Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks that his nation would be “at war” with NATO if the West permitted the use of long-range weaponry against it, Sir Keir has supported Kyiv’s right to self-defense.
“That’s not our intention in the slightest,” the prime minister stated after stating that the UK does not “seek any conflict with Russia.”
Since last year, the UK has been supplying Ukraine with Storm Shadow cruise missiles; but, like to the US, it forbids the nation from using the weaponry against locations.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been advocating for the lifting of limitations on the employment of these missiles against Russian targets, since Russia invaded his nation in full in February 2022.
President Putin stated on Thursday that permitting long-range strikes would indicate that the US, Europe, and NATO allies were at war with Russia. Should this be the case, he continued, “We will make appropriate decisions based on the threats that will be created for us,” taking into account the fact that the fundamental nature of the conflict has changed.
