BULAWAYO: Corbin Bosch's all-around skill and rookie Lhuan-dre Pretorius's record-breaking century helped South Africa defeat Zimbabwe by a resounding 328 runs in the opening Test match. In the first Test of the two-match series, the home team's batting line collapsed on a pitiful 208 runs while chasing a difficult 537-run goal. Bosch removed the number three batsman on the first ball of the day, giving Zimbabwe the worst possible start as they attempted to rally from 32-1 through opener Prince Masvaure and Nick Welch (0). Following the early blow, Masvaure was joined by first-innings centurion Sean Williams for a short 32-run partnership.

In the last race of the first day of competition, the 29-year-old faces off against London 2012 winner Kirani James and Muzala Samukonga of Zambia, who placed third at Paris 2024. His fellow countryman Charlie Dobson is also expected to run.

In other events, the highly anticipated women’s 100m features Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita as American Sha’Carri Richardson and St Lucian Julien Alfred, who placed first and second in the summer Olympics, rekindle their rivalry.

Josh Kerr is not competing in the 1500m, however Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway and Cole Hocker and Yared Nuguse of the United States, who won gold and bronze in the Paris Games, will compete in the highly anticipated race.

Letsile Tebogo, the 21-year-old Olympic champion from Botswana, competes in the 200m against Kenny Bednarek and a formidable American field.

While Britain’s Molly Caudery will aim to get over her dismal Olympic campaign, Sweden’s Armand Duplantis may try to improve on the world record that he has already broken three times this year in the pole vault competition.

Melissa Courtney-Bryant of Britain competes in the women’s 1500 meters, while Ben Pattison of Canada has tough competition in the 800 meters against Kenyan Olympic winner Emmanuel Wanyonyi.

Running the 800m–1500m double, Georgia Bell will have Jemma Reekie at her side for the shorter distance. On Saturday, Neita and Amy Hunt will also participate in the 200 m.
