The payment processing business Shift4 Payments, which Mr. Isaacman created in 1999 when he was just 16 years old, has an estimated value of $1.9 billion (£1.46 billion).
The businessman had a deep love for aviation; he took his first flight lessons in 2004 and went on to break the Guinness record for the fastest light jet round-the-world trip.
It is not Mr. Isaacman’s first space expedition, Polaris Dawn. He sponsored and oversaw the first private, all-civilian team to orbit the Earth in 2021.
That crew, called Inspiration4, departed from Florida on a SpaceX spacecraft.
