Calls for Kiev to receive long-range missiles are growing, but Lammy maintains that the West “will not be bullied by Putin” in the Ukrainian conflict.

The prime minister is under pressure to enable Ukraine to launch British long-range missiles into Russia, but the foreign secretary has said that the UK and its allies would not be "bullied by Putin's shameless grandstanding.".

David Lammy called the Russian president’s threats to deploy nuclear weapons “totally unacceptable” if the West delivers additional arms to Kyiv on News’ Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips.
Leader of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is putting more and more pressure on the government to permit troops to launch long-range Storm Shadow missiles into Russia; but, following discussions between US President Joe Biden and US President Sir Keir Starmer in Washington last week, no decision was made.

Two American officials who were aware of the conversations claimed they thought Sir Keir was requesting US permission, which was necessary because Storm Shadow components.

Though Mr. Lammy stated he was unable to get into specifics of the reasons no decision was taken, he did say that “there is a debate about further missiles.”

He said that Sir Keir has promised to give Ukraine £3 billion in aid, has sent more missiles when needed, and would keep up his support for the country.

According to Mr. Lammy, the UN General Assembly will revisit the topic of long-range weapons the following week.

The former foreign secretary and shadow home secretary James Cleverly called it “disappointing” that Sir Keir and Mr. Lammy had “failed to secure an international agreement for Ukraine to use these missiles.”.
