In an Instagram post, the Heart Radio DJ revealed the news and said that he had surgery lately to remove a lesion from his voice chords.
“The biopsy has identified this as Stage 1 Laryngeal Cancer,” the 53-year-old wrote.
“All right, so I have cancer, but it doesn’t have me!
“The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back with you in October.”
“Be grateful for this day, and when I see you next I’ll have a great story to tell… Jamie x,” he wrote as he concluded his message.
Amanda Holden, Theakston’s radio co-host, shared a picture of the two on Instagram.
“Our amazing @jamie.theakston has been diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer,” the post reads.
His outlook is excellent, and he is supported by an amazing group of people.
“Jamie. We hope to see you again soon because we adore and miss you. You will overcome this with the help of @sophietheakstonjewellery, your handsome boys, Us, and the entire country.”
While Theakston heals, presenter Jason King, sometimes known as JK, will fill in for him. Normally, he co-hosts with Kelly Brook.
“It is not all bad news,” she continued, adding that Theakston had asked them to “hold the fort” while he was abroad and they would “do him proud.”.
