Reece Richards, who starred in the popular Netflix series Sex Education and is presently on the road with Hairspray The Musical, reported that on September 4, after the stage show’s performance in Fulham, southwest London, he was pushed to the ground after a police pursuit.
“Painfully clear that racial profiling remains a significant issue,” he said, citing the episode as evidence.
The Met Police claimed that officers had been pursuing three males who fled from a car that crashed after they failed to halt for them after seeing a picture and video uploaded on social media.
Officers “frequently find themselves in dynamic, difficult situations and must make snap decisions”.
The force stated that a complaint and further information, such as police bodycams, were being evaluated at the moment.
The police watchdog for England and Wales, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), said it had also been informed of the complaint and had spoken with the Met Police to determine whether to conduct additional investigation.
