Despite Russell Wilson’s injury, the Steelers will continue to start Justin Fields as quarterback in Week 3.

Sunday's Pittsburgh Steelers game against the Los Angeles Chargers will probably feature Justin Fields starting at quarterback for the third week in a row.

Fields will work with the starting lineup during the first part of the week while Russell Wilson continues to recover from a calf injury that he aggravated a few days before the season began earlier this month, according to Coach Mike Tomlin’s statement on Tuesday.

Wilson’s situation has not changed, according to Tomlin. The Steelers want to use Fields against the undefeated Chargers (2-0), despite Wilson’s statement that he thinks the nine-time Pro Bowler is coming closer to a return. Fields was restricted throughout practice last week.

Regarding whether Fields has replaced Wilson as the full-time starter, Tomlin declined to comment.

During the team’s victory over Denver on Sunday, Tomlin once took Fields aside and assigned him the duty of inspiring the offense, which was having trouble moving the ball in the second half.

“I asked him to do it in his own voice, in his own words,” stated Tomlin. “You ask the quarterback to perform a few things, like those. Being in a competitive environment and having the chance to collaborate as leaders and coaches is absolutely fantastic.
