Water shortages are posing a serious danger to the output of huge firms in the Steel Mill and Port Qasim Industrial Area, which is causing severe problems for Karachi’s industrial sector.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has been suspending water supplies, which has caused a month-long crisis for the industry and affected numerous industrial units, including foreign automakers.
A money disagreement between Pakistan Steel Mills and the Water Board was the root of the problem. The Steel Mill paid crores in water fees over the years, but the Water Board cut off the water supply to the industrial facilities in the neighborhood, citing unpaid obligations.
In a letter, Pakistan Steel has urged the KWSB to assume control of the water management system.
