A China-sponsored cyberattack alert on a “botnet” of 260,000 compromised devices is released by the UK and its allies.

A cyberattack alert has been issued by the UK and its Five Eyes allies over a "botnet" of over 260,000 hacked devices that is supported by China.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and its allies in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have urged businesses to safeguard their equipment against potential intrusions.
It claims that a Chinese-owned business with ties to the government built and controls a global botnet comprising over 260,000 hacked devices.

Large networks of malware-infected internet-connected devices are known as botnets.

Because of this, the group can take control of them and use them to launch malicious assaults without the owners’ awareness.

They are most frequently employed in distributed denial of service attacks.

However, viruses can also be distributed using them.

A few examples of compromised gadgets are webcams, routers, and CCTV cameras, among other internet-connected equipment.

Roughly 126,000 devices, or half of the total, were reportedly located in the US, with 8,500 “nodes” in the UK.

Businesses were advised to assess the security of their devices, pointing out that outdated security and outdated equipment are especially vulnerable to this botnet’s threat.
