XEC is a novel COVID-19 variation that has been detected in 27 nations, including the US, China, and the UK. It is rapidly gaining popularity across the globe. The earlier Omicron subvariants KS.1.1 and KP.3.3, which were initially found in Germany in June, are combined into this hybrid variant.
Health authorities have found the variation in samples from several European countries, including Poland, Norway, and Portugal, even though there aren’t any cases currently listed in India. Experts caution that because of XEC’s increased transmissibility, it may end up as the dominant strain.
There are reports that XEC has additional mutations that increase its potential for spread, especially as fall approaches.
Vaccines should continue to be effective in avoiding serious illness despite the infectious nature of the disease.
