The first of three Met Office warnings for this weekend is in force on Friday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and covers the South West, the South East, and the West Midlands. It also encompasses a sizable portion of Wales, which includes Swansea and Cardiff.
According to the weather service, buildings will most likely sustain damage from lightning strikes during storms.

Additionally, it warned that driving may be impacted by hail, spray, and/or standing water due to the probability of up to 40mm (1.5 in) of rain in three hours. It also mentioned the likelihood of power outages and the potential for rail delays.

Early on Friday, there might be a few thunderstorms in southern and southeast England, but by the middle of the day, the Met Office predicted that the showers will spread out more inside the warning area.

Where thundery showers do arrive, they will bring frequent lightning, strong winds, possibly some large hail, and brief periods of heavy rain. Some areas will remain dry.

“A very small chance of 30-40mm falling in three hours” was mentioned for South West England.

A second thunderstorm warning is in effect for Saturday for 23 hours, from 1 am to midnight, and it covers an even wider area, including all of Wales, Liverpool, Stoke-on-Trent, and Leicester.
