RAWALPINDI: Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI and a former premier who is currently incarcerated, has declared that the nation has become a “police state” and that the current state of affairs is even worse than it was under martial law.
In an informal interview with journalists at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Khan took aim at the current government, which is led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). “This is a martial law which is far stricter than [former military rulers] Zia-ul-Haq and Pervez Musharraf’s martial law,” Khan said.
The ousted prime minister, who has been imprisoned for more than a year, said last week that the martial law regimes of previous military leaders Pervez Musharraf and Zia-ul-Haq were “better” than the current democratic one.
