The England teammate Gus Atkinson, Hampshire’s Liam Dawson, and Glamorgan’s Colin Ingram have all been shortlisted for the PCA Men’s Player of the Year award in 2021, which Root won in 2012 as a young player.
Alongside Sciver-Brunt, who won the women’s title in 2017 and 2022, are Hollie Armitage of the Northern Diamonds, Kathryn Bryce of The Blaze, and Paige Scholfield of South East Stars.
The performances on the shortlists, both domestic and foreign, were chosen by other players prior to the awards ceremony on October 1.
Over the previous 12 months, Root, 33, has amassed 1,262 international runs and broken Alastair Cook’s England record of Test hundreds by attaining his team.
After making his international debut, Atkinson has excelled; all-rounder Dawson leads the PCA men’s domestic overall MVP race after taking home the trophy the previous year; while South Africa’s Ingram scored nearly 2,000 runs during the summer.
Sciver-Brunt, 32, was The Hundred’s leading scorer with 303 runs, and she was named Women’s ODI Player of the Summer after scoring 233 from four innings.
