The Legend of Maula Jatt, an unprecedented Pakistani film that broke box office records both domestically and internationally, “appears to be facing trouble” in India, the Times of India reports, one day after the country governed by Narendra Modi confirmed its release on October 2.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), an opposition group in India formed by Raj Thackery, has said that it will not allow the release of the film starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan.
Politician and producer Ameya Khopkar declared that Indian theaters would not be permitted to screen Pakistani films. “Neither the distribution of Pakistani films nor the employment of their artists in Indian productions will be permitted.”
Khopkar continued, “It is quite frustrating that an Indian corporation is leading this plan,” adding more details to his threats.
