ISLAMABAD: In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s district Kohat, a 10-month-old newborn girl was diagnosed with the poliovirus, bringing the country’s total polio cases to 23.
This year’s second instance from the country’s northwest province was the infant from Tehsil Darra Adamkhel, who on September 12 became paralyzed after contracting wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1).
Days have passed since the first verified case of polio in the province was discovered in the Mohmand area on September 6.
Up until earlier this month, the province had been free of polio thanks to the diligent work of the provincial government, polio workers, and national and international organizations that collaborated to eradicate the disease.
