A dispute erupted on the opening day of the Conservative Party conference over remarks made by the shadow housing secretary, who seemed to refer to the benefit’s present level as “excessive”.
Rather, she asserted that in the competition to succeed Rishi Sunak, “some mischief being made on social media trying to misrepresent me”

During this campaign, I want to talk about important issues and harsh realities,” the candidate for leadership stated. “I want to discuss what companies informed me about excessive business regulation from my prior position as business secretary.

In her initial comments regarding maternity pay, Ms. Badenoch stated on the radio that the benefit was a “function of tax.”.

Taxes are paid by working people; we are taking from one group of people and giving to another,” the speaker continued. “This is extreme, in my opinion.

“I think it’s gone too far, too far the other way, in terms of general business regulation. We need to allow businesses, especially small businesses, to make more of their own decisions,” the former minister stated in response to criticism that maternity pay is “excessive.”

I don’t think it matters how much maternity pay is paid exactly. We must ensure that the conditions we are fostering allow people to work and have greater flexibility to it.
