RAWALPINDI: In anticipation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) demonstration, which was declared by the city’s previous ruling party today, the Punjab government has enforced Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the Rawalpindi Division for a period of two days.
The Punjab Home Department issued the notification, which forbids any political events, including sit-ins, rallies, protests, and the like, as The News reported on Saturday.
This comes after PTI founder Imran Khan said on Friday that the party will instead be holding a demonstration in place of the originally scheduled rally in Rawalpindi today.
According to Khan, the previous ruling party has also withdrawn its request for a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench in order to hold a demonstration.
