Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, former first lady Bushra Bibi, filed bail requests on Monday, but the court denied them. They are accused of abusing their positions of authority to obtain gifts from the government in the ongoing Toshakhana case.
In the Adiala jail, Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand rendered a decision on the couple’s bail pleas, while the former prime minister and first lady also attended the session. The change in events occurs as the pair is scheduled to face charges in the aforementioned case on October 2. The case was moved to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate amendments to the anti-corruption laws, and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was prohibited from pursuing the case.
The ousted prime minister has been behind bars for nearly a year after being found guilty in four separate cases: the Iddat case, which also involves his wife’s incarceration, the cipher case, and two Toshakhana references.
The pair became the subject of the new Toshakhana reference when the NAB detained them soon after Khan and Bushra were found not guilty in the iddat case, also referred to as the un-Islamic case.
