According to news, McCaffrey has Achilles tendinitis in both of his legs, not just one. This was confirmed by head coach Kyle Shanahan.
According to Shanahan, he has “experienced bilateral achilles tendinitis for some time, but that the condition is more concentrated in one leg than the other,” according to Adam Schefter.
Matt Maiocco of Sports Bay Area revealed this information on the “49ers Talk Podcast” on Sunday.
The 49ers’ hopes of having McCaffrey play this season are further complicated by this, as Schefter notes, as it was always anticipated that McCaffrey would only have one Achilles tendinitis episode.
47ers’ problems include Christian McCaffery consulting with a specialist in Germany for achilles injuries.
It’s unknown at this point whether McCaffrey has been suffering with the illness in both of his legs during the offseason or whether this is a recent problem.
In any case, the powerful running back doesn’t want to be there as the 49ers look for retribution for losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl the previous season.
