JERUSALEM: Israel branded Antonio Guterres, the head of the UN, “persona non grata” on Wednesday, citing his alleged failure to expressly denounce Iran’s missile assault on Israel.
Foreign Minister Israel Katz issued a statement saying, “Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran’s heinous attack on Israel does not deserve to step foot on Israeli soil.”
“This is an anti-Israel Secretary-General who lends support to terrorists, rapists, and murderers,” he stated.
Katz continued by saying that Guterres “will be remembered as a stain on the history of the UN for generations to come” because he backed the “murderers of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and now Iran, the mothership of global terror.”
After Iran launched a missile attack on Israel late on Tuesday, Guterres denounced the “broadening war in the Middle East” and harshly criticized the “escalation afterescalation” in the region.
