The 50-year-old artist promised to alter his name by deed poll if the reissue of his debut album Back to Bedlam became the number one album in the charts.
Blunt announced that the album, which includes singles like You’re Beautiful, Goodbye My Lover, and High, will be re-released on October 11 to commemorate its 20th anniversary in a video statement that was uploaded on X.

In the brief clip, Blunt is heard stating, “I’ll let the people decide.” He continues: “But if it doesn’t go to number one, I’m not changing my name.”

The singer invited followers to offer names for him or her in the comments section below the video message, using the hashtag #jameswho. The fan with the most likes would win.

And the response from the audience was positive. Within hours of being posted on Wednesday, it gathered up over 800,000 views and more than 2,000 comments.

At the time of writing, Blunty McBluntface was the most popular option. This is the precise name the singer had stated he didn’t want in an appearance on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X on September 30.

Blames Junt, James Corden (after the presenter and star of Gavin & Stacey), and Nick Pope (after the England and Newcastle United football players) were some other well-liked choices.
