the San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-2 in the second game of their National League Division Series on Sunday.
The game was delayed shortly in the bottom of the seventh after a spectator tossed a baseball toward left fielder Jurickson Profar’s direction. Subsequently, Fernando Tatis Jr., the right fielder, was targeted with more objects.
The Dodgers public address announcer pleaded with supporters not to hurl things onto the field as the umpires stopped the game. On the field, Padres manager Mike Shildt called an impromptu team meeting while security calmed things down.
“He wanted to ensure the safety of his players,” Ken Rosenthal of Sports stated during the show.
He was worried about his players’ safety since debris was being thrown at them by bystanders.
