Giancarlo Stanton’s single early in the game gave the Royals a lead when it scored Gleyber Torres from second base. In the third inning, Torres beat the throw, giving the Yankees the lead 1-0.
However, Carlos Rodon was hit by the Royals in the following half-inning.
Salvador Perez got the Royals on the board with a solo home run, which knotted the game. Yuli Gurriel scored on Tommy Pham’s RBI single to give the team the lead. Garrett Hampson singled home Pham, and Maikel Garcia drove him home. It completed a fourth that saw four runs.
Garcia went 4-for-5 with one RBI in the end. Hampson finished the evening 2-for-2.
Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s solo home run in the ninth inning gave the Yankees momentum, but it was all the Royals needed to seal the deal.

Cole Ragans worked four innings for the Kansas City Royals. He struck out five hitters while giving up just one run on three hits. After working just one inning and recording a strikeout, Angel Zerpa was given the win. The save was taken up by Lucas Erceg.
Although New York entered the series with home-field advantage, Kansas City snatched a game.
