After a record-breaking 573 millimeters of rain converted the city into a flood zone, flooding streets, marketplaces, government buildings, and residential areas, torrential rains wrecked havoc in Gujrat and the surrounding districts.
Major localities were left with several feet of standing water due to urban floods. Up to four feet of water flooded the District and Sessions Court, business centers, and the DC Complex.
Authorities had to move prisoners to Gujranwala and Lahore jails as Gujrat’s central jail flooded as well.
After devastating rains ravaged the city on August 27, more than 1,000 inmates from Sialkot Jail were transferred to Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Narowal.
