On Monday, South Korea announced that it wants to re-enter the United States for hundreds of its residents who were detained during a massive US immigration raid at a car battery project last week and are scheduled to be taken home shortly.
To address the matter, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with Foreign Minister Cho Hyun when he travels to Washington on Monday night. Cho added that he will request future simplification of the US visa process for Korean laborers.
At the location of a $4.3 billion project by Hyundai Motor and LG Energy Solution to construct batteries for electric cars, 475 people were arrested on Thursday, including about 300 South Koreans.
