ISTANBUL: A 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody after a shooting attack on a police station outside the Turkish city of Izmir on Monday left two officers dead and two injured, according to a ministry.
Two officers were killed and a third “seriously injured” in the “heinous” attack on the police station in Balcova, a district immediately west of the resort city, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
“The suspect in the incident, 16-year-old EB, has been arrested and an investigation has been opened,” he posted to X.
Izmir Governor Suleyman Elban told Turkish journalists on the spot that the suspect was hurt during his arrest and that he resided on the same street as the police station.
