As temperatures continue to drop across the United States due to a winter storm, the Tennessee Department of Health announced that at least 14 people had died in Tennessee as a result of weather-related occurrences, according to News Channel 5.

A 66-year-old man passed away on Monday, according to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), after falling through a skylight while shoveling snow off the roof of a company in Hickman County.

Monday at around 3:30 p.m., dispatchers got a 911 call regarding a guy who might have fallen through a skylight at a company on Highway 100.

According to TEMA, he fell 20 feet, hit on a concrete floor, and was declared dead at the site.

Furthermore, deaths were reported in Madison, Shelby, Knox, Carroll, Washington, and one in Madison, one each in the counties of Henry, Lauderdale, and Van Buren.

The identity of the deceased and the manner in which the weather contributed to their deaths were not disclosed by TEMA, but Wednesday morning temperatures in Middle Tennessee were below zero.

By Thursday afternoon, those numbers ought to be higher than freezing.

The region’s exceptionally low temperatures have raised demand on the electrical infrastructure. It is requested of both the public and businesses to consume as little electricity as possible without compromising safety. At least Thursday is when temperatures are not predicted to rise above freezing, according to TEMA’s report.
