Two neighbours divided by Belfast peace wall turn barriers into friendship Physical wall turns short distance into long walk Lily Brannon, 73, and Michelle Bradley, 46, live in Belfast on opposite sides of a peace wall that separates the Springfield and Springmartin Road areas. Their homes are only about two minutes apart on foot. Because of the wall, the journey between them takes around 20 to 30 minutes. These peace lines exist across parts of Belfast to separate some Catholic nationalist and Protestant unionist communities. Friendship formed through cross community project The two women met through a cross community programme in west Belfast. The initiative runs at the Black Mountain Shared Space building and is supported by the International Fund for Ireland peace barriers programme. At first, both felt cautious. Michelle remembers a sense of reservation. Lily describes it as suspicion. That early tension faded as they spent more time together. From fear to trust Lily grew up before the Troubles, the decades of conflict that ended with the 1998 peace agreement. Michelle was born during the 1980s, when violence was still widespread. Michelle says she did not grow up with hate, but with fear of what she did not know. She believed people on the other side might already dislike her, even without meeting them. Strong bond despite history Over time, the two women built a close friendship. Lily now speaks warmly about Michelle and says she is someone she can rely on. Michelle has also formed a strong bond with Lily. Their relationship shows how everyday contact can reduce long held fears between communities that have been divided for decades. The International Fund for Ireland, which supports this kind of work, is marking 40 years of cross community efforts.

A South Carolina court has overturned the murder conviction of former lawyer Alex Murdaugh. He was convicted in 2023 for killing his wife Maggie and son Paul. The state Supreme Court has now ordered a new trial. Court decision The South Carolina Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling, 5 to 0, in favor of a new trial. The judges said Murdaugh did not receive a fair trial because of outside influence on the jury. Murdaugh is currently serving two life sentences for the murders. He is also serving additional prison terms for financial crimes at both state and federal level. Reason for new trial The court found that the Colleton County Clerk of Court, Rebecca Hill, improperly influenced the jury. The judges said her actions affected the fairness of the trial. Hill has already pleaded guilty to misconduct, obstruction of justice, and perjury. She admitted to sharing sealed information and misusing public funds. Claims of jury influence The ruling included statements from jurors who said Hill made comments during the trial. One juror said she was told to watch Murdaugh closely, which affected how she viewed the case. Other jurors reported being told not to trust the defense and to avoid being misled by evidence presented in court. Some also said Hill suggested the case should not take long during deliberations. Background of the case Murdaugh was once a powerful attorney in South Carolina. His criminal trial lasted six weeks and received global attention. The case involved the shooting deaths of his wife and son near the family property. After his conviction, the case became widely covered through documentaries, podcasts, and books. The trial was also broadcast publicly. Hill later published a book about the case, but it was later withdrawn after plagiarism concerns.

The Washington Commanders will face the Indianapolis Colts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Jaguars will then host the Eagles the following week at the same venue. After that, they will meet the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium. This will be a divisional game, which is rare outside the United States. Middlesbrough React After Playoff Exit Amid Spygate Claims Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg has spoken out after his side were knocked out of the Championship playoffs by Southampton in a tense extra time defeat at St Mary’s Stadium. Southampton won the match 2 1 after extra time, but the result has been overshadowed by serious off pitch allegations linked to a Spygate investigation. Spygate Allegations Dominate Post Match Debate The English Football League has charged Southampton over claims that someone associated with the club observed a Middlesbrough training session before the first leg. Hellberg said the issue changed how he feels about the tie. He believes the match should be decided by tactics alone, not by any unfair advantage gained outside the pitch. He also said it feels painful because it affects the fairness he expects in football. Southampton Under Investigation Southampton have requested more time to carry out an internal review of the situation. This could delay the final outcome of the investigation. However, the EFL is under pressure to make a quick decision because the playoff schedule is already tight. The uncertainty has created tension around whether the upcoming final at Wembley will go ahead as planned. Middlesbrough Want Clear Outcome Middlesbrough want clarity so the competition can move forward without confusion. They believe the situation must be resolved quickly so focus can return to football rather than off field issues. The result of the investigation could have a major impact on both clubs and the final stage of the season.

Eddie Jones Suspended as Japan Head Coach After Match Official Abuse Disciplinary Action Taken by JRFU Former England rugby head coach Eddie Jones has been fined and suspended from his role as Japan head coach after admitting to inappropriate comments directed at match officials during an under 23 tour in Australia last month. The Japanese Rugby Football Union confirmed the decision, saying the behaviour was serious enough to require strong disciplinary action under his contract. Jones has been removed from duty for six weeks and will miss Japan’s next four matches, including the opening Nations Championship fixture against Italy on 4 July. He will also be absent for two matches against a Hong Kong China Select team and a warm up game against the Maori All Blacks. The union has also reduced his salary as part of the punishment. Jones Issues Apology Jones accepted the sanction and expressed regret over his conduct. He said his remarks caused discomfort to local officials and others involved, and he apologised for the incident. The 66 year old acknowledged responsibility and said he understood the impact of his behaviour. Background and Recent Incidents Japan’s under 23 squad completed the tour with three wins from four matches, including a strong 38 to 21 victory over Randwick, a club closely linked to Jones’ coaching history. This is not the first time Jones has faced controversy since returning to Australia. After England’s series win over Australia in 2022, he was involved in tense exchanges with fans who accused him of disloyalty following his switch in coaching roles.

LAHORE: Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stated that the nation’s honor was unaffected by the handshake dispute that broke out following the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 match against bitter rivals India.

At Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi, accompanied by former chairmen Ramiz Raja and Najam Sethi, informed reporters that match referee Andy Pycroft, who is located in Zimbabwe, has formally apologized to national captain Salman Ali Agha, the coach, and the team management for the issues brought up by the team.

“The match referee expressed regret to the team management and captain a little while ago. Additionally, we have formally asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to look into the violations that took place during the match on September 14,” Naqvi stated.
