ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is fighting his jail trial in relation to the Toshakhana gift and £190 million embezzlement. According to Geo News, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) served notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and secretary interior on Thursday.

Having ruled the petitions admissible, the IHC has requested a response by January 22 (Monday) from the NAB and secretary. Fixing a hearing for Monday before the available bench was ordered by the high court.

The hearing of the petitions was handled by IHC Justices Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Arbab Tahir.

The National Accountability Court (NAB) filed the Toshakhana case before the accountability court on November 20, according to Latif Khosa, the PTI founder’s attorney.

Since December 23, 2023, hearings regarding the Toshakhana referral have taken place every day. According to the legislation, the judge of the appropriate court must start the jail trial procedure, and this court has issued an order addressing its implementation,” he stated.

Considering that the notice was sent in November and the challenge was made in January, Justice Miangul Hassan questioned why the challenge was made at such a late date.

The attorney for the PTI founder responded that they learned about the reference when his client received a summons.

Judge Miangul Miangul stated that all that needed to be done was make sure the case was handled correctly. He remarked that whether the trial was place in a courtroom or a jail did not matter to them.

A brief order in this regard was previously accessible, according to the IHC judge. He said that it was a court order that ought to have been observed.

Khosa questioned whether the federal government was certain that a reference would be made, even though it was optional.

This time, Imran Khan also objected to the accountability judge’s nomination.

The judge was placed on deputation, according to Khosa, and his retirement was imminent. He stated that daily hearings were being held by the court to conclude the trial.

The attorney said that little progress had been made on the other cases, and that only the cases of the former prime minister were being rushed.

Toshakhana, according to Justice Miangul, was a government and federal cabinet secretary safe.
