PRETORIA: When South Africa starts a new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle as the defending champions, captain Aiden Markram believes his team can anticipate having a target on their back.
In an attempt to keep the trophy they won in June by defeating Australia by five wickets at Lord’s, South Africa will play two Test matches in India in November and a two-Test series in Pakistan beginning on Sunday.
The top two teams compete in a one-time, five-day match to determine the WTC, which is chosen at the end of a two-year cycle.
“If you’ve won (the WTC), I guess you make yourself a bit of a target, and if that’s the case, it’s fair.”
