Protest Expands Into Premium Technical Apparel
In December 2025, Dutch apparel company Protest Sportswear completed its acquisition of Swedish ski brand 8848 Altitude. The deal highlights the Dekker Group’s strategy to move into the high-end technical apparel market. By acquiring 8848 Altitude, Protest strengthens its position in the premium segment without competing directly with its core collections.
Strategic Integration Without Losing Brand Identity
Wesley van Wijnbergen, managing director of Protest Sportswear, described the acquisition as a “natural strategic extension.” Caroline Dekker, owner of Protest, emphasized operational synergies such as enhanced IT systems, shared international distribution, and streamlined product development. The goal is to retain 8848 Altitude’s unique identity while leveraging Protest’s global reach. Magnus Berggren, founder of 8848 Altitude, welcomed a financial partner capable of supporting international expansion while respecting the brand’s heritage.
Transition and Future Collections
The transition has been planned carefully to maintain consistency for retailers and customers. The Autumn/Winter 2026/2027 collection, designed by 8848 Altitude’s original team, will benefit from Protest’s distribution network. Full design responsibility will shift to Protest’s team starting with the Autumn/Winter 2027/2028 season. Protest has committed to upholding 8848 Altitude’s high technical standards, premium materials, and sustainable practices.
Global Growth Strategy
This acquisition supports the Dekker Group’s broader international ambitions. Already active in North America, Protest Sportswear now strengthens its technical credibility worldwide. By combining Dutch business agility with Swedish technical expertise, the group is positioned to serve casual skiers and professional mountain enthusiasts alike. The move reinforces a long-term vision focused on quality, innovation, and sustainability rather than short-term sales volume.
