Stella, the sister of Dolly Parton, defended Elle King after the singer’s inebriated homage to the country icon provoked criticism.
Elle, 34, honored Dolly on her 78th birthday by performing at the Grand Ole Opry event in Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
“I didn’t see nor hear the Grand Ole Opry birthday tribute to my big sister Dolly over the weekend,” Stella wrote on X in support of Elle.
However, it seems that a little girl named Elle King insulted and cursed at several of Dolly’s admirers by not understanding the song. She did acknowledge that she was “hammered,” but her words, not mine, she went on.
Stella contended that if male artists act in the same manner, they won’t face as much criticism, and because Elle is a girl, criticism was leveled at her actions.
“But let me just say this, it wouldn’t be the first time a Hillbilly went on the stage of the Opry “hammered,” but good lord don’t ever let a girl behave that way folks! I guess it’s okay if you’re a male.”
“Double f standard if ya ask me,” she continued. The Opry has issued an apology! Haha.
On January 19, Dolly Parton released new tracks from her album Rockstar in honor of her 78th birthday.
