After an operation by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and Dutch and Belgian police, a man suspected of being a major supplier of small boat equipment to people smugglers was taken into custody in Amsterdam.
Under the NCA, the individual is accused of providing boats and engines to traffickers in northern France.
Accused of human smuggling, the 44-year-old Turkish national will be extradited to Belgium after being detained at Schiphol Airport on Wednesday.
“The arrest is a milestone in one of the NCA’s most significant investigations into organized immigration crime,” said Rob Jones, director general for operations.
