ISLAMABAD: According to The News on Tuesday, the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) has released a manifesto that addresses the political and economic climate of the nation. It recommends limiting dynastic politics and the term of parliament.
The think tank held a report launch ceremony on Monday to reveal the “PIDE Reform Manifesto: Transforming Economy & Society,” with Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi serving as the special guest.
The provincial and federal terms of parliament should be shortened to four years under the constitution, according to the PIDE platform.
Elections to Parliament
Every year ought to be election year, and it would be necessary to transition to a staggered election system in which elections for some governmental positions take place annually. This would follow the US model, in which elections for Congress are held every two years and for President every four.
The introduction of term and family limits for legislators is necessary. The prime minister needs to have term restrictions again, maybe for a maximum of two terms.
