State Investigation Hampered
Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has accused FBI of concealing evidence from their investigation. BCA Superintendent Drew Evans described the FBI’s action as “concerning” and “unprecedented.”
Families Call for Joint Investigation
Pretti’s parents have also called for collaboration between federal and state authorities. The family stated that “justice and accountability requires a thorough, impartial investigation in order to determine the facts.” It would be great to see a joint investigation between the state and federal government.
Department of Justice Civil Rights Inquiry
The Department of Justice launched a civil rights investigation in January into Pretti’s death. BCA also investigates two other incidents, including the shooting by ICE of Renee Good on 7th January and the injuries of a Venezuelan following a chase a week later.
The FBI has not yet confirmed whether it will be sharing information about these cases.
