A debate about a waterfall has taken China’s social media scene by storm, to the point where the waterfall has responded with an explanation.
The water flow from Yuntai Mountain Waterfall, which is referred to as China’s tallest uninterrupted waterfall, is seen in an image that a hiker uploaded, showing that the pipe leading up into the rock face is where the water comes from.
Since it was first shared on Monday, the video has received over 70,000 likes.
The “small enhancement” was made during the dry season, according to the Yuntai tourism park operators, so that guests would feel that their vacation was worthwhile.
The caption for the video that was posted said, “The one about how I went through all the hardship to the source of Yuntai Waterfall only to see a pipe.”
It garnered over 14 million views on Weibo and almost to 10 million views on Douyin, generating enough controversy to send local government representatives to the park to look into it.
According to state broadcaster CCTV, they asked the operators to take a lesson from the tragedy and notify travelers in advance of the enhancements.
