A deep-sea diver and a US billionaire in luxury real estate are arranging a submersible trip to investigate the Titanic.
The goal of Ohio entrepreneur and adventurer Larry Connor and co-founder of Triton Submarines Patrick Lahey is to see the shipwreck in the North Atlantic Ocean by sending a submersible down to a depth of about 3,800 meters (12,467 feet).
The OceanGate-built ship collapsed last year, shocking the private submersible industry and taking five lives.
A representative for Mr. Connor’s business stated on Tuesday that the planned trip wouldn’t happen until the ship had received complete certification from a marine agency.
The planned expedition has no set timeline.
They intend to utilize a dubbed substitute.
The carbon fiber Titan submarine, manufactured by OceanGate, was certified to a maximum depth of 1,300 meters, well below the ocean surface where the Titanic wreckage was located.
The ship collapsed in June 2023 while visiting the Titanic wreckage. Along with four other passengers, including British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son Suleman, 19, British businessman Hamish Harding, 58, and former French naval diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet, 77, all perished on board, including OceanGate’s chief executive Stockton Rush, 61.
