India’s rejection to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has drawn criticism from former South African batting great AB de Villiers, who described it as an instance of politics interfering in sports.
De Villiers claimed that the tumultuous trophy presentation that followed India’s Asia Cup triumph conveyed the incorrect message on his “AB de Villiers 360” YouTube channel.
“Team India wasn’t quite pleased with the person presenting the prize. That doesn’t seem appropriate for athletics. Politics should be put aside. He stated, “Sport is one thing, and it should be praised for what it is.”
