Texas Governor Greg Abbott is gaining support from former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley in his legal battle with the Biden administration over his efforts to address the ongoing crisis at the southern border.

In a statement released on Thursday, Haley said, “Governor Abbott is correct: the state of Texas has every right to defend itself and its borders.”

“It is utterly absurd that the US President is attempting to prevent governors from taking all necessary precautions to safeguard their citizens. However, this is also nothing new; as governor of South Carolina, I passed one of the nation’s strictest anti-illegal immigration laws, and Joe Biden was a member of the administration that sued me.”

Abbott and the Biden administration are presently engaged in several legal disputes. Texas’ seizure of Shelby Park near Eagle Pass has prompted threats from the federal government, and lawsuits regarding the administration’s removal of Texas-installed razor wire and the installation of buoys in the Rio Grande are still pending.

The governor of Illinois claims that Abbott Bussing Migrants are causing harm to Blue Cities.

This week, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the administration, granting an emergency appeal that would have permitted agents to continue chopping the border wire that Texas had installed. This week, Texas released pictures showing the state fortifying its physical barriers along Eagle Pass.

A newly enacted law in Texas that permits local and state authorities to detain undocumented immigrants has also been the subject of lawsuits from the administration. The administration claims that Texas is endangering agents and migrants by interfering with federal control over immigration and border security.

Abbott, however, pointed to the constitutional provisions requiring the federal government to “protect each [State] against invasion” as well as the states’ right to border security.

“The failure of the Biden administration” to carry out those responsibilities, according to Abbott, sets off an Article 1 provision that “reserves to this State the right of self-defense.” He states that the authority is “the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary,” and that he has already declared a “invasion” in order to use it.
