According to U.S. Defense officials, on Monday, several strikes were carried out on Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen by American and British warplanes and ships.

The airstrikes caused massive explosions in several locations throughout Yemen.

According to a U.S. official speaking to Fox News, Al Dailami Air Base, missile launchers, and drone and ballistic missile storage facilities were among the Houthi targets hit by American and British weaponry.

Since January 11, there have been two coordinated air and maritime strikes between the United States and the United Kingdom.

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier launched F-18 fighter jets and American warships fired Tomahawk missiles as part of the strikes.

“Today, the militaries of the United States and United Kingdom, at the direction of their respective governments with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, conducted an additional round of proportionate and necessary strikes against 8 Houthi targets in Yemen in response to the Houthis’ continued attacks against international and commercial shipping as well as naval vessels transiting the Red Sea,” a joint statement issued by the United States, the United Kingdom, and nations read.

The statement mentioned a string of unlawful, hazardous, and destabilizing Houthi actions, such as attacks with unmanned aerial systems and ballistic missiles against two American-owned commercial ships.

The goal of Monday’s “precision strikes” was to “disrupt and degrade” Houthi efforts to endanger mariners’ lives and international trade.

“Today’s strike specifically targeted a Houthi underground storage site and locations associated with the Houthis’ missile and air surveillance capabilities,” the statement continued. “The Houthis’ now more than thirty attacks on international and commercial vessels since mid-November constitute an international challenge.”We will not back down from defending lives and the unhindered flow of commerce in one of the most important waterways in the world against persistent threats, as we continue to work toward defusing tensions and restoring stability in the Red Sea,” the joint statement said.

On Monday night, defense officials gave additional details about the strikes, stating that the mission was successful in eliminating “significant” Houthi capability.
