According to a revised toll, the deadly earthquake that shook eastern Afghanistan over the weekend has killed more than 2,200 people, making it the deadliest to strike the nation in decades.
According to a Taliban government toll, the majority of those killed in the magnitude-6.0 earthquake that rocked the mountainous area bordering Pakistan late on Sunday were in Kunar province, where 2,205 people were killed and 3,640 injured.
The nearby provinces of Nangarhar and Laghman had another dozen fatalities and hundreds of injuries. As volunteers and rescuers continued to remove remains from the debris, it was anticipated that the death toll would increase.
