Shortly before 10.30 p.m. on Saturday, the driver was discovered dead in the car after the collision, according to a statement from the US Secret Service.
The driver, who has not yet been recognized, is an adult male, according to the DC Police Department.
The agency states that while the Secret Service is still investigating the incident, the Washington Metropolitan Police Department will look into the “fatal crash portion” of it.
Just after midnight on Sunday, Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service’s chief of communications, tweeted that certain local traffic restrictions were still in place while law enforcement and emergency personnel remained on the site.
“No threat or public safety implications” was what he added.
