Wagner College won its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, sending them to the Round of 64.
In the final seconds of Wagner’s 71-68 triumph, Howard missed three free throws in a First Four showdown between 16-seeded teams.
After falling behind by 17 points early in the second half, Howard went on a 14-2 run in the last 18 seconds to cut the deficit to 69-68 thanks to a basket by Bryce Harris. In the final six seconds, Howard attempted three 3-pointers but missed them all after Julian Brown made two free throws for Wagner.
Wagner will now take on the top-seeded UNC team on Thursday.
Howard won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and the Seahawks earned their spot in the tournament by winning the Northeast Conference.
Melvin Council Jr. led Wagner with 21 points. Due to injuries, the team only had seven players available for conference play, and on Tuesday night, only seven players actually saw the floor.
