As his contract expires at the end of the season, veteran French defender Raphael Varane has announced his exit from Manchester United.
Varane, 31, made a headline-grabbing £34 million ($43 million) transfer to join the Red Devils in 2021 from Real Madrid.
He has made 93 appearances during his stint, scoring twice, showing off his skills.
Varane battled injuries, but he was crucial to Manchester United’s 2023 League Cup victory—the team’s first trophy in six years. Varane thanked the fans and reflected on the thrilling atmosphere of Old Trafford and the close bond he formed with the team and its supporters.
Varane feels confident in the club’s future, pointing to the new ownership’s strong vision, especially that of United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe. Varane’s departure was announced by United in a statement, which also praised his steadfast class and expertise, which were particularly valuable in strengthening the defense.
