With a 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4 victory to break Jannik Sinner’s rule, Carlos Alcaraz won the US Open title on Sunday and further cemented his hold on the historic rivalry between the men’s game’s forerunners.
Alcaraz’s second New York victory put him back at the top of the global rankings, emulating the victory that originally catapulted him to the top in 2022. The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated Sinner and increased his Grand Slam trophy haul to six.
Alcaraz solidified an early break by continuing to play the sunshine tennis that has enchanted Flushing Meadows over the past two weeks while gray clouds hung over the famous Arthur Ashe Stadium.
