Outgoing President Arif Alvi has released his final statement as president of the country, stating that he will give over the X handle to his successor today (Saturday).
His declaration came immediately after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reported that Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), won the presidential election with 411 electoral votes.
Aside from the PPP, Zardari won the coveted position with the support of partner parties, primarily the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai, a PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate, lost the presidential election and received 181 electoral votes.
“May Allah forgive my shortcomings and reward me for any good deeds I may have performed.
