ISLAMABAD: Following the resignation of Syrus Sajjad Qazi due to superannuation, seasoned diplomat Amna Baloch assumed the role of the nation’s 33rd Foreign Secretary, the Foreign Office announced in a statement on Wednesday.
Baloch, a Grade-22 officer in Pakistan’s Foreign Service, was named Foreign Secretary last week, becoming the second woman to hold the position following Tehmina Janjua.
The new foreign secretary has held a number of significant positions in Islamabad and Pakistan’s overseas missions throughout her career in diplomacy, most notably serving as the nation’s consul general in Chengdu, China, from 2014 to 2017.
Additionally, from 2019 to 2023, she held the position of High Commissioner to Malaysia, and from 2023 to 2024, she was the Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
