The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has issued an arrest warrant for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur for allegedly violating the code of conduct in the 2021 elections.
The electoral authority has sent a letter to the Dera Ismail Khan deputy commissioner about the detention of Gandapur, Imran Khan’s nominee for the position of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister.
The letter directs the PTI politician, who was a federal minister at the time, to appear before the AJK Election Commission on February 28. Lawyer Raja Zulqarnain filed the petition against Gandapur during the 2021 election.
The outspoken PTI leader has been barred from attending and addressing election-related rallies in AJK.The statement further reads: “Thank you to the Whistler Blackcomb Adaptive Programme for educating us.
The measure was taken when the commission learned that Gandapur had made nasty remarks in speeches at various public meetings in AJK, in addition to releasing billions of rupees in development packages.
According to the AJK Election Commission, the decision was made because the minister’s actions not only caused law and order issues, but also raised concerns about the loss of human life.
Ali Amin Gandapur won the general elections on February 8 in NA-44, Dera Ismail Khan-I, and PK-113.
On February 13, Imran Khan announced Gandapur as his party’s candidate for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s chief minister. The PTI won 84 seats in KP during the elections.
“KP’s chief minister will be Ali Amin Gandapur,” stated the former prime minister.
